With a new moon, comes new opportunities. Opportunities for new beginnings and to plant new seeds.
On Saturday May 4th, 2019 I stepped out of my comfort zone and drove to Santa Cruz, CA to attend a “New Moon Vibes” Ceremony without any idea what I was walking into.
What is a New Moon Ceremony?
At the time of committing to this ceremony, I had no idea what to expect. I knew that there would be yoga involved since it was held at a yoga studio (and it said so in the event description). Other than that, I really wasn’t sure what to expect.
When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The lights were dim and in the center of the yoga studio was an altar filled with candles, stones, crystals and other similar items. Our instructor began the ceremony with an explanation of how with the new moon comes a time for beginnings. This would be a chance to let go of past limiting beliefs and set intentions to “plant seeds” for new beginnings.
In total the ceremony last about 2 hours. We did everything from sharing in the circle, to yoga, meditation and journaling. Here’s what I discovered…
Personal Development
The theme throughout the night was a continuous one of letting go of past obstacles and embracing new beginnings. This mindset led me to the realization of a theme I’ve been going through in recent years… I’m a “recovering bro”.
See, in college (Chico State) I was “that guy” — always hosting the party. It’s funny to think back and realize, now in my early 30’s, in recent years I haven’t really gone out and partied just because it’s the weekend.
In reality, I had nothing to worry about and it feels really nice to be committing to a workshop such as this New Moon ceremony to work on myself on a Saturday. As opposed to just using a Saturday night as an excuse to party and get drunk as I did when I was younger.
In the past year and a half; I’ve gotten into meditation, yoga, self discovery, plant medicine and being in touch with my feelings just in general. Not too mention, I’m an avid Kombucha brewer. I say this to demonstrate the evolution of my being because if someone told me this would be my path back when I was in college I would have scoffed at the notion. But, honestly I LOVE the path I’m on and am embracing spirituality fully.
New Beginnings
I took the lessons of this ceremony seriously; and have made a list of things (for lack of a better word) that I will discontinue as they no longer serve me on my current path. Not only did I make a list, but I made a new note in my phone with affirmations and more that I will read daily as a reminder of why I’m committed to this new path.
What I’m most excited about is embracing my most passionate project to date… Soul Seeker (a new podcast).
Spirituality Podcast
Since journeying with Ayahuasca a little over a month ago, I have committed to a new podcast that is already my most passionate piece of content to date. I’ve had 3 podcasts, 2 YouTube shows, and 3 books published in the past 2–3 years. Looking back, I realized that nearly everyone of these achievements have just been fluff. They have been helpful in a business (and personal) way to others, but my passion behind doing them was a little forced and not nearly as natural as this latest project.
I am beyond excited to channel my time and energy into something that I’m truly passionate about and that’s my new spirituality podcast. The working title is “Soul Seeker”, but due to not wanting to infringe on any legal issues I might have to intentionally misspell the name to “Soul Seaker”, “Soul Seekr” or something similar. Still working on ideas, so if you have feedback — please let me know 🙂
Anyway, the reason why I’m so passionate about this podcast is because my journey in Spirituality is changing my life. The ability to be more present has drastically shifted my state of consciousness. I’ve felt moments of being “awake”. I understand and am beginning to live the concept of accepting (surrendering) rather than resisting which creates more friction. And most of all, I’m healing in a sense of discovering my true purpose in this universe.
Actions
My intention for you is to evaluate where you are in your life.
Are you happy?
If not, why not?
What can you change?
What do you want to do that you’ve been putting off?
What’s holding you back from doing it?
How can you shift your current situation to center your being to achieve your highest excitement?
When you read these questions, read them slowly. If they don’t resonate now, come back to them in a few days. But, if there’s one thing you do let it be to ask yourself hard questions. Deep down we all have desires. Some of us have them more on the surface than others. But, I’ll tell you from experience if you ignore these desires you will feel more and more empty by the day. So, please check in with yourself daily. It doesn’t have to be in the form of intimidating 20 minute meditation sessions. Just find a routine to check in with yourself daily, no matter how simple. You’ll thank yourself later.
